Family Pension

To whom it is payable

  • When a Government Servant dies while in service or after retirement, family pension is payable to the Family.
  • The Family for the purpose of Family Pension means -
    • Wife, in case of a male officer
    • Husband, in case of a female officer
    • Sons including adopted children adopted legally before retirement till attains the age of 18 years.
    • Un-married daughter until she attains the age of 21 years or marriage whichever is earlier.
    • Family Pension will not be payable to more than one member of an officer's family at the same time. It will first be admissible to the widow/ widower & thereafter to the minor children.
    • In the event of re-marriage or death of the widow/widower, the Family Pension will be granted to the minor children through their natural guardian.

Calculation of Family Pension:-

Family pension is calculated at two rates

  • Enhanced Rate --  Enhanced Rate of Family Pension is calculated as follows :-

i)   50% of last pay drawn

ii)  Double the normal rate of Family Pension, whichever is less.

     The enhanced rate of family pension is payable for a maximum period of 7 years from the date following the date of death or attaining 65 years of age had the pensioner survived, whichever is earlier and not beyond the notional date on which the deceased would have attained the age of 65 years ("Applicable only if service rendered is not less than 7 years")

  • Normal Rate --  Normal Rate of Family Pension is calculated at 30% of the last pay drawn
  • Family Pension resulting in a fraction when calculated, should be rounded off to the next higher rupee.
